Pilgrim, the authentic 1895 Brixham built gaff-rigged sailing trawler will make her first appearance, since undergoing a full restoration, at this year’s BMF South West Try A Boat Free event, part of BMF’s “On the Water” campaign.

On Sunday 26th May, Pilgrim, will be open for on-board viewings at the BMF South West Try a Boat event. The sailing trawler has been meticulously restored to her former glory by a dedicated group of volunteers and craftsmen. Etched with traditions of the past, sympathetically complimented by up-to-date comforts of stylish modern sailing accommodation, Pilgrim is set to become the jewel in the crown of Brixham’s Heritage sailing fleet.

Organised by BMF South West in association with South Devon Marine, the Try A Boat Free event is the perfect opportunity for all ages to get on the water and have a go at boating. BMF South West region hosts and supports this event with a wide variety of sail and motorboats available for all to try for FREE! All of the boats will be skippered by qualified or professional yachtsmen. Visitors will be provided with lifejackets and skippers will deliver a short safety briefing before the boats head off. Depending on the weather and tides, each trip will be between 20 minutes and an hour. Experts will be on hand throughout the weekend to discuss buying and owning a boat and to answer questions.

The following companies and boats have announced attendance so far including; South Devon College – Beneteau 381, Shakespeare 6M RIB, Aquaflyte 4m Ribs; Frogmore Boatyard – Salcombe Launch 16; Cockwells – Duchy 27 Launch; Ribeye A600 RIB. Other shore-based exhibitors include Darthaven, Ribeye and Boatshed Dartmouth.

Free events supported by On the Water are a great introduction to boating, offering a safe environment to learn, try and test the boats. All participants will benefit from the expert guidance and advice of BMF members at the event taking away with them a fun, secure and exciting on-water experience.
