The most recent survey describes this vessel as a full keel, round section, auxiliary yawl with carvel plank on bent frames and a timber keel with external iron ballast. She is splined above the waterline. A recent survey indicates that she is bronze fastened throughout.

Construction materials consist of the original Alaskan yellow cedar planking. Keel and stern timbers and stem are Douglas fir. Frames are white oak. House tops and decking are laminated plywood with glass/epoxy sheathing treated with nonskid.

All plumbing (including tanks, pump, sump) is new.

The bottom, topsides, and deck were painted in 2024.

The interior of the vessel is entered from the cockpit through double opening door (washboards are also stowed aboard) and a short ladder leads from the companionway opening to the deck of the pilothouse. The elevated pilothouse, like much of the vessel, is rich in natural wood (varnished yellow cedar & hardwood). Windows, portlights, and the companionway door / overhead hatch let in a substantial amount of light. Chart storage, VHF radio, electrical components (battery charger), battery switches, breakers, and the Blue Sea AC / DC breaker panel, and tank monitoring instruments are located to port. Shelving to starboard provides storage for miscellaneous small items and sundries, an Isotherm refrigerator, and an aromatic cedar and white oak jump seat.

The saloon is located a couple steps down and forward of the pilothouse. The galley lies to starboard and is configured with a Dickinson Bristol Stove configured to run on kerosene (new). The Dickinson Bristol stove heats the cabin while also doubling as a cooktop and oven, and is even plumbed to the Isotemp water heater to make hot water! In addition to the galley stainless steel sink, there is storage for pots, pans, silverware, and provisions above and below the countertop.

The port side of the saloon is configured for seating with an aromatic cedar and white oak settee seat with a yellow cedar back. Storage is onboard and beneath the seat. A saloon table is mounted to the forward bulkhead of the saloon and can be hinged down when not in use. The saloon seat can double as a single berth.

The head compartment lies forward of the saloon and to port. The head compartment contains a new Tecma electric marine toilet, washbasin, shower, mirror, and hand-crafted custom cabinetry.

The forward cabin is laid out in a V-berth and sleeps two. The upholstery has recently been updated. Shelves lie to both sides of the V-berth. An overhead hatch and portlights provide natural light and fresh air.

Commentaires du Broker

The current owner has embarked upon a number of extensive updates to improve upon this one-of-a-kind classic PNW sailing vessel, and is now offering her for sale.

The exterior is richly fitted with classic bronze hardware, with sail covers that match the bronze patina. The planks are original old-growth yellow cedar, and the last survey (12/2021) found the hull to be in very good condition. Her topsides, deck, and bottom were painted in 2024.

The vessel features new tanks (fuel / water / holding), new plumbing (pumps, lines, toilet), new electrical (wiring, charger, breaker panels), and new appliances (fridge, stove, water heater). I particularly like the Dickinson Bristol stove in the galley that can be used to cook, heat the cabin, and is even plumbed to the water heater to make hot water. The saloon features a new settee made from aromatic cedar, white oak, and yellow cedar with a matching jumpseat in the pilothouse.

This William Garden 36 yawl is gracefully beautiful from the exterior and a true joy to be aboard. The interior is comfortable, well-outfitted, and a showcase of fine woodworking. This unique vessel has been cruising the Salish Sea for 75+ years and is now ready to embark upon a new journey with a new Captain at the helm.
